I beleive the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated, copied, and interpreted correctly. In the course of my studies of the Bible, I've discovered that it has a long and convoluted history. So, these are my discoveries and my musings of Christian history and doctrines.

The Lost City of Atlantis or Nephites and Jaradites?

Well, I just finished watching Investigative History on the History Channel tonight. It was about the searchings of several scholars for the lost city of Atlantis. Some of the interesting points were the Mayan ruins in the Yucatan Peninsula. They showed statues of elephants, and stone carvings of bearded men. The local natives can’t grow beards. Something else was mentioned regarding mitochondrial(?) DNA research. It was briefly mentioned that there was a connection between various groups of native Americans to a small group in the middle east. Also, they mentioned that a city was recently discovered about 2,000 feet beneath the ocean just west of Cuba.

The Lost City of Atlantis? Somebody needs to give these people a Book of Mormon.

I have absolutely no doubt that someone will come across a city... anciently known as Moroni at the bottom of some lake or sea.

As far as it being Atlantis... no... Plato wrote about Altantis about 350 years before the city of Moroni was destroyed, falling into the sea.

I have a more awesome idea on Atlantis....
The city of Enoch was taken up off the face of the earth.
Do you think that major event was noticed?
Of course!
Do you think it is something legends would come from...
Of course!
Enoch and atlantis are not so far off in names that over thousands of years the name was changed from Enoch to Atlantis... Look at how much the story had been changed by the time that Plato heard it.
We do not have any evidence of civilizations as advanced as Atlantis was to be existing 9500BC
Some story teller exaggrerating.
3500BC is more plasiable and more in keeping with what we do know about the dawn of time, more in keeping with Enoch's time.

If a culture is so advanced, so peaceful, so superior as Atlantis/Enoch's... it is easy to see how people of the earth at that time would think that Enoch was swallowed up rather than taken up by God.
If they were not as righteous, they would come up with their own corrupt idea of what happened to explain the great gap in the land, now filled in by either the ocean or ground table water.

Thought to ponder.

I also watched that episode about Atlantis and felt the same thing about the City of Enoch. If made perfect sense with how the city of Atlantis was decribed. I am totally convinced that Atlantis was in fact the city of Enoch.

I will post some more interesting evidence related to Atlantis and the City of Enoch and the Emerald Tablets as well. They are all connected.

I agree that the city of Enouch and the city of Atlantis are very much more than likely to be the very same city. One thing I will dispute with your idea, is that the people of that time, though wicked and very capable of change and switching a story around like that so it didn't envovle God in the explaination, were all destroyed in the flood, all of them except for Noah and his family who were righteous. It seems to me that Noah's sons would have told their children about the miraculous story of Enouch's city, but somewhere a long the line, as the people grew wicked again, someone decided to take God out of the picture and thus, over time, created the legend of Atlantis.

i agree with you but ur rationalization is a little too much for me. At that time people weren't obsessed with removing God and creating a secular world. Stories change over time bud...

This all sounds very interesting to me- but since I did not see the program- would somebody please enlighten me as to who the Jaradites are? I was told that I would become the King of the Jaradites by the book of Mormon. What can be said about this book - for I had never heard of it before? Just a little more background would be well appreciated.

I would like to commend you on your open minded out look I had not thought to think about the connection to the city of atlantis but I would also like to post an idea. the mayan civilazation dissapeared off the face of the earth around the same time that the city of Enoch was lifted off the face of the earth due to their righteousness could this also play into it just a thought I would like to discuss more neodraven@hotmail.com

I do believe that Moroni was the city that sunk into the see. It even says in scripture that the city of Moroni was the one that sank into the sea. I can see a possibility in it being the city of Enoch but the legend of Atlantis is affiliated with water in every version. Also, a thing to consider is when I heard the legend at first it said the people were blessed with knowledge but were destroyed because of their boastful pride in their knowledge. God would have been angry with these people and destroyed them. The timing was right when Jesus was crucified for these people to be punished in the way that they deserved

I read a very detailed book on "the search for the city atlantis" And the conclusions and connections to the cities they found under the water connected directly with the cities in the americas. The same roads, the same glyphs, similar building styles. The person then attributed those things to simply denoting the general location of the city, not the fact that those were actually the sunken cities of the nephites. :)

Eusebius of Caesarea was a primary historian during the first Council of Nicaea. His writing "Præparatio Evangelica" Book 9 Chapter 17, states:
"But the Greeks say that Atlas invented astrology, and that Atlas is the same as Enoch: and that Enoch had a son Methuselah, who learned all things through angels of God, and thus we gained our knowledge."

Both the Greeks and ancient Jews equated Enoch with Atlas (the son of Poseidon not the Titan holding up the sky). This Atlas was given the City of Atlantis by his father. The Greek Atlas is the Jewish Enoch. Atlas is listed as the high king of Atlantis and he is its namesake.
For an LDS person who believes in the City of Enoch this is an obvious connection.

The scriptures will only be truly understood to the people who have been spoken about who is directly dealing with God himself for he did choose a people. The comment about Eusebius was most helpful, thank you. I am always interested in Biblical History, especially Ancient History. Glad to have this bit of info, that opens up a whole new area for me to research.

People have always been obsessed with adding and talking away God from the picture, whether in conscious or in action, it happens in every form. It's the fight between good and evil and is a completely timeless one. That story doesn't change. You should check out the bible yo.

The city of Enoch was not taken by God for its riteousness. I hate to rain on your parade but if you read in the book of Genesis you will see that what I'm about to tell you concerning Enoch completely checks out. I have been researching ancient history ancient mythologies and Atlantis since I was 15 and I am now 34. I have also been studying religions (both ancient and modern) for the past 12 years. In the book of Genesis in both the Torah and the bible plainly states that in the generations of Adam there were 2 Enochs. The first Enoch was the first son of Cain, son of Adam. Cain slew his brother Abel, hence committing the first murder, and was banished out of Eden (Not the garden, which lies Eastward in the land of Eden) into the wilderness of the land of Nod. In the land of Nod, Cain got married (Most likely to his sister, but other popular beliefs are that he married a woman from the land of Nod. This belief stems from what seems to be 2 creation stories in Genesis 1 and Genesis 2. But through reading it several times and learning alternate translations of the original text written in Hebrew I have come to believe that the second account is written in retrospective of the first.) After marrying Cain and his wife had a boy whom they named Enoch. Cain also built the first city which he named Enoch after his son. That was Adam's son named Cain whom had a son named Enoch. After Cain was banished to Nod for murdering his brother, Abel, Adam had a third son whom he named Seth. The seventh in lineage from Adam, through the lineage of Seth, was also a man named Enoch, son of Jared. It is this Enoch who was the great grandfather of Noah and whom also walked with God. Of this Enoch the book of Genesis quite literally says "Enoch walked with God. And all the years of Enoch were 365 years and Enoch was not, for God took him." You see, this Enoch, seventh from Adam, through Seth, did not die, instead God took him up to heaven because of his riteousness. So you see, it was not the city of Enoch, that was built by Cain, that got taken into heaven for riteousness, but, Enoch, the seventh from Adam who was taken. Now, that being said, I myself believe that the City of Enoch is the original name of the city denoted as Atlantis.

In light of my previous comment I would like to expand on my present beliefs about Atlantis that I have obtained through my years of research. I do believe the City of Enoch and the city of Atlantis to be one in the same. By comparing several sources I have found MANY similarities between the two. Let's go in depth on these similarities. In a book kept out of the bible, yet placed before Genesis in the Ethiopian bible is the book of Enoch. This book is quoted many times in the bible, both by Jesus and his brother Jude as well as other patriarchs. Chapter six in both Genesis and in Enoch records an event that happened in the days of Jared, Enochs father. It reads that the Bene Ha Elohim (translated as Sons of God in English, which refers to the angels, and is used in the same context for the angels in New and Old testament books) saw the daughters of men that they were beautiful and lusted after them. A group of them,200 in all, came down and took wives of all they chose and had children with them. These children were famous and renown men of old. It also refers to them as Giants. These angels knowingly defied God by having children with these women. Now a mirror to this us found in almost all ancient religions/ mythology. The Greeks speak of the Titans whom had children with women. Their children became the Olympians.... Zeus, Atlas and so on. They also speak of the Titans getting imprisoned within the Earth in a place called Tartarus. The book of Enoch says God punished the angels who came down by imprisoning them in a place within the Earth called Tartarus. The children of the Titans, as well as the children of the Olympians were quite literally known as famous men of old. In fact God imprisoned the angels in Tartar us BEFORE Noah's flood. In Greek mythology the Titans were imprisoned before a worldwide flood as well. Now according to Plato, the Greek historian in which the city of Atlantis was originally written about, the first king of Atlantis was the Olympian Atlas, whom the name Atlantis is derived from. Now, delving further. Plato says that Atlantis had a total of eleven kings. The book of Genesis records Eleven Generations of Cain before the flood if you count Cain, whom founded Enoch city. The book of Enoch records that the angel Azazael came down and taught men how to make things from metals, swords, shields, armor, and weapons of war, as well as the art of war. The book of Genesis records of a man in the lineage of Cain known as Tubal Cain who was an instructor of every artificer in brass and iron. Tubal Cain was brother of a man named Jubal who was father of all such as handle the harp and organ. Now these brothers were seventh from Adam in Cains lineage, which places them in the timeframe of both the rebellion of the angels and the life of Enoch, seventh from Adam in Seth's lineage. The book of Jasher says the angel Azazael took Tubal Cains sister Na'a-mah as his wife. Interesting since Azazael taught men metallurgy and Tubal Cain was the first teacher in working metals. Now, the legendary metal Orihalcum was said to be a fiery gold color and was mined only in Atlantis. The composition of Orihalcum is supposed to be a mixture of brass and iron as well as gold. Tubal Cain was a worker of brass and iron as recorded in Genesis. The similarities are huge. The angels that had children with women taught them music, astronomy, meteorology (reading weather) and much more. These are identical to the things the lineage of Cain were the "fathers" of. That made the city of Enoch more technologically advanced than anywhere else in the world. This also mirrors Atlantis. Plato records that Atlantis sank into the sea because they angered the gods. In the bible, the book of Enoch and Jasher all recorded that God flooded the world because he grew angry with men. Another parallel with Enoch city and Atlantis. I have MUCH more info for anyone who wants to inquire. Just reply and I will post more
